I have a Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD. I bought this last year. I ran into an OS issue recently and decided to reformat my system.
I therefore re-installed windows 10 64-bit (Creator's update), as well as the latest drivers for my system from my MoBo's website. Motherboard is an AsRock Z170-Pro4s. It has 6 SATA III ports. I have 4 devices connected to the SATA ports. Obviously, one is the SSD. I installed the Samsung Magician software and it tells me the drive is running at 1.5 GB/s, and that a SATA III connection is available. Well, I know its available-- ALL SATA ports are SATA III. So for some reason, it says my drive is connected to a SATA I port when its connected to a SATA III. Does this mean the Magician software is wrong? Are the MoBo drivers screwed up (come to think of it, I never did install any specific SATA drivers; there weren't any on the website. Just the Intel INF drivers, in addition to Intel Rapid Storage Technology and Management Engine drivers).
My BIOS is updated to latest. The SSD's firmware is the latest. I'm using all 6 Gb/s cables (though this shouldn't matter). I've tried all the ports, and the software keeps saying "1.5 Gb/s".
One of the "drivers" I downloaded from the AsRock site was "Intel Rapid Storage Technology". When I open that program, it says my SATA transfer rate for that drive is 6 Gb/s. I'm hoping that this is correct and somehow the Samsung Magician is wrong; but my two Western Digital HDDs also have transfer rates of 6 Gb/s on that program...
Thanks!
