Hi I wanted to know if there is any compatibility issues on me putting a SSD Samsung 500GB SSD 970 EVO NVMe M.2 on my Asus Maximus Ranger VII the motherboard is LGA 1550.

If there is any downside or something to that thank you for the help!

What is a riser card ? Sorry I'm still learning about this new Nvme and Pcie I don't understand a lot of storage disk and etc.

Thank you for the help !

Not riser card but M.2 PCIE adapter card.
And it has to be placed in 1st or 2nd PCIE X16 slot for access to full speed operation (PCIE 3.0 x4).
3rd slot gives only PCIE 2.0 x4 conectivity. It is not enough for 970 EVO.

M.2 connector speed on your Z97 motherboard is 10Gb/sec maximum transfer speed.
You can increase that to 20Gb/sec with a PCIe x 4 adapter card for a M.2 drive.

The drive is for PCI 3.0 x 4 which has a maximum transfer speed of 32Gb/sec, while your old Z97 motherboard is PCIe 2.0 not 3.0
