one of my slots is already occupied, i need to know if it works on both slots. or if i need to make sure whats available if it requires a specific slots (as i believe i read thier slightly different)

What slot is known by taking the side panel off and looking.
Then, cross reference that with pictures in the user manual.

What drive?
Is this a prebuilt?

It will work, but your benchmark numbers will be halved.

The WD Black and Samsung 980 are both PCIe 3.0 x4 drives.
Same basic spec and performance.

There will not be a real visible performance delta between the slot during normal use. Sure you could probably measure it on a stress test type workload but for general use its fine.

It will work.

When you run a CrystalDiskMark test, it WILL show as much slower than the advertised specs.
Then, you'll come here wondering what is "broken", and what to "fix".

There is nothing to "fix", it is what it is.

But in actual use, you'd see little or no user facing difference.

What do you use this system for?

yes i would like it to work, but work well and provide it the best ssd slot within my system. the ssd itself im buying will be used to run ark survival evolved on. a 500gig game that desperately needs an ssd.

my current ssd is used for windows mostly. and one or 2 games but ensure its got plenty of free space
