Hi, i've been having problems with my OS drive, its a Kingston SA400S37960G, its new.
My pc has Windows 10 64bit, an i5-10400, mb is Asus B560M-A, 16GB DDR4 HX Fury, another 2 hdds, a WD Purple 3TB, and a Toshiba 2TB, only used for storage. Psu is a Thermaltake ToughPower gf1 850w, i dont game so my v. card is a 1650 wich is enough for me and basic operation/watching media, etc.

I ran HD Tune, CrystalDiskInfo and HDSentinel. Thing is, i changed the cables for a new one, changed the SATA from the PSU, and the error keeps climbing, its a huge number like 500k, so its weird. The system is brand new, almost 9 days old, and aside from the HDSentinel message, system is fine. The software kingston provides, says my drive is Ok, but HD Tune, and HD Sentinel says otherwise, so what should i do?

I don't have another disc to boot at this moment, so maybe i should get another ssd?
Mechanical drives seems to be running Ok.

The Performance decreases a lot if i dont clear the Log file in HDSentinel. I'm kinda worried tbh.
System is fine, but i've search everywhere about this, and did what i should. I've also updated the drivers for the MB, nothing changed, numbers from communication errors are still moving.
I'll probably try to get another ssd and see what happens, but not from Kingston, thats for sure.

Thanks!

HD Sentinel is interpreting the raw value as a single number. However, it could actually consist of two 16-bit numbers.

  • 0x00080041 -> 0x0008 / 0x0041 = 8 / 65 decimal

65 is a lot less than 524353 (= 0x80041).

In any case, the errors could be due to the SATA controller on the motherboard rather than the SSD. Also, these errors would be automatically corrected by retransmission of the affected data.

Tried a different mobo sata port?
Checked for firmware update?

Interesting, didn't know about how HDSentinel manage these numbers.

Meanwhile Kingston Manager shows everything OK

So what should i do? Already tried cables, original Asus/MSI SATA ones, and other ports.
I have reinstalled all the chipset drivers too.

Idk, I'm planning to buy another SSD, but i'm affraid my local store has Kingston or Gigabyte SSDs at the moment.

Yes, all 6 ports, with different new cables 🙁
There is no FW upgrade for this SSD model, sadly.

Thanks for your reply!

Just an update.
After installing Windows 10 Pro on a new Crucial MX500 1TB, this drive, has no CRC errors.
And as of now i've transfered a lot of files (wich maybe are corrupt leading to the problem with the Kingston SSD), but it turns out that, my other HDDs are showing good status, and no comms error through SATA interface or the Sata ports from the MB.

I will leave this SSD just for small backups and stuff, but my conclusion is, a bad drive. I mean something happened, but since the other drives are working fine, the Kingston SSD is the problem.

HDSentinel Pro has reported (and remembered) drive communication problems which turned out to be loose or corroded SATA cables.

I normally fit high quality latching SATA cables and decent power leads, but very old systems may still contain non-latching cables which can work loose, leading to intermittent comms problems.
