SSD seems to kill whole PC

A friend gave me his old 60gb Crucial M4 SSD as he was upgrading, so i copied my OS over to the ssd, and tried to boot. At this point the power supply fan didnt power up and the computer wouldn't turn on at all. I then removed the SSD and the same thing continued to happen, so i tested the PSU with the paperclip method and it seemed to be working. I then removed everything and rebuilt from scratch but using my HDD for boot, and everything worked! Reconnected the SSD and the same thing happened, and I could not get it to work until i did a full rebuild again. I really can't see why the SSD would kill the whole system like this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I have since been using the PC off my HDD, and the issue is still occuring! when i press my power button the PC shuts down as normal, but then will not power back on. If i then unplug the PSU connectors, do a paperclip test and reconnect them, the PC starts again.

My setup-
Motherboard: Gigabyte z97p-D3
Processor: intel i5 4670k
GPU: gainward GTX770 Phantom
Ram- Corsair Vengance 8Gb
PSU- Corsair CX600M

it's actually not very rarely happens.
your ssd vrm is shorted..

like every part in your pc, if vrm has shorted, then your pc cannot turn on.
like harddisk, graphic card, motherboard, etc etc etc.

So, once more again, your ssd is dead.

but..actually, with a little soldering skill and appropriate component, it can be repaired..

Thanks for the reply, however sine posting I have encountered the issue even off my HDD, and without removing the PSU, and reattatching everything i cant get any life out of it. To me this sguggets a PSU issue?

well, how old is your PSU..?
CX series in known to be failed after 2-3 years of usage. even many of that fail in the first year.

Just borrow a psu from your friend, or whoever that you can..
and try to turn on your system with ssd attached..
If it run flawlessly, then you have a faulty cx..
If it's still under warranty, just RMA..If it's not, then buy another PSU..

but if it's still not power up with your friend's PSU, well, your ssd has killed that one too..😀

PSU is 3 weeks old.
I've given up on the SSD for now, but i tried running my PC without my Graphics card installed and it boots fine every time. Graphics card installed it seems to stop the PC from booting maybe 50% of the time, and i have to take it out and test the PSU before it will boot again. So either the graphics card or the PSU is preventing it from even powering on in the first place. I will borrow a friends PSU and see if i get the same issue
