[SOLVED] SSD size lower than HDD?

I have a Dell Vostro 15 laptop with 500GB HDD which I want to upgrade to 500GB SSD. Dell tell me it can support 1TB HDD, but only 250GB SSD. Does this make sense?

it does make sense, that ssd is in m.2 slot, could be either hardware limitation that only 256gb is supported, or they simply dont offer any higher capacity. using 3rd party m.2 ssd may have compatibility issues

It could also just be an old HD controller.
