I recently built a windows 7 desktop. I have a crucial m4 128 gig ssd, and a 1 terabyte samsung spinpoint f3. I have installed windows 7 and firefox on the ssd and nothing else.

I have read the articles on this forum for tweaking the ssd. I have the temp file on the samsung hdd. All pictures, etc. go to the hdd as well. I recently installed microsoft office and pinnacle 12 on the hdd, yet after installing them I noticed that approximately 2 gig of space had been used on the ssd. Can anyone tell me why? I have not changed the location of the program files from the ssd, could that have something to do with it? Even though I installed these two programs on the hdd?

Thanks for any replies.

Thanks for reply Realbeast.

I have disabled system restore, but I will check that again to be sure. I have not done anything to the pagefile, so I will check that as well. I'll certainly run ccleaner.

Run Disk Cleanup to remove unneeded files.
Click the Windows Start button and then type "Disk Cleanup" in the search box.

Start the program and click the "Clean up system files" button. You will see a list of files you can remove.

I normally check "Temporary Internet Files", "Recycle Bin", "Service Pack Backup Files", & "Temporary Files".

Click "OK" after you've selected which files you want removed and Windows will delete them from your system.

Thanks a bunch folks. It turned out out that I had not disabled system restore for the ssd, only the hdd. That freed up about 5 gb. I also moved the pagefile to the hdd. That freed up 16 gb! The other things you both mentioned removed close to another gig. So I went from approximately 79 gig of free space to 101 gig.
