SSD standalone or SSD + HDD

I am planing on buying an SSD to my laptop (Acer VN7-791G). My laptop has only 1 SATA port and 1 M.2 slot. Is it better to just buy a SATA 3 ssd (850 evo or extreme pro) replace the hdd or buy a 850 evo m.2 and still use the HDD (5400 rpm)? No problem for the space, i care more about the performance of the pc.

If you wanted to use a hdd, I would get something faster than 5400. If they exist. Or just use the M.2 slot

I would go the m.2 + hdd route. You never know when you might need some more space, also you could save some bucks by bying a lower capacity m.2 since you would have the hdd available. Battery wise running only the m.2 would definitely save you some juice.

PS: the price for 500gb samsung 850 evo, 500gb samsung 850 evo m.2 and 480gb sandisk extreme pro is almost the same. I also have 2 external hard drives.
