I built a relatively new pc, just under a month old, and recently the ssd has stopped showing up in My Computer. Its a Sandisk ultra 2 480gb so far only used it for games (it hadnt arrived when i setup up windows 7). It'll be active when the pc starts up but after about 5-10 minutes a message pops up from 'Intel rapid storage technology' and the drive is no where to be found after that, I've checked in the disk management and its not even being detected, any thoughts on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

F.I. I've secured the SATA connections and with it being detected on boot up I dont see it being related to the connection

Solution
Download and run CrystalDiskMark - (SSD benchmarking utility). Set it up to work over the SSD with at least a 2GB test run. See if you can indeed get it to disconnect once you load it. If it does disconnect, then I would without a doubt look into a warranty/return.

Any suggestions for a diagnostics program? the Sandisk one isnt detecting the drive either

No immediate suggestions as I very much just stick with the applicable manufacturer. Tend to avoid third party utilities.....

What you might do is remove the SSD and try it in/on another system. Use an external USB case to make the SATA to USB connection.

And there are simple adapters that do the same - just plug on to the end of the SSD and then connect a small power supply that comes with the adapter.

Determine if the SSD becomes visible and/or readable. Leave it on for some time and see if the problem repeats as the drive warms up.

When you reboot, does the drive show back up immediately? As in:

Computer is off, cold.
You boot up computer. SSD is present.
5-10 minutes later, SSD disappears.
Reboot immediately, SSD is present.
5-10 minutes later, SSD disappears again.

If it's not there on reboot, then I'm going to bet that it's a bad SSD. As in: SSD is cold - SSD warms up or gets hot. SSD shuts down due to heat or something fails internally under heat/load.

If it IS there on reboot, then it might be a driver issue. Is it set up as your boot drive? (I would assume so)

As I said the SSD was here when i setup the boot drive so its just a HDD but today I've had my PC on for about 12 hours straight and its still being detected but that being said I havent used anything off of the SSD to heat it up
