i was trying to transfer some files from a Samsung 840 evo to a 950 pro and it seem to be going fine but just not as fast as i thought it would. the estimated time was about, if i'm remembering right, 5 minutes. then it froze at about 74% so i tried to cancel and that was taking forever like it was just stuck. so i closed everything and rebooted and now it estimates more than a day and goes slow or freezes

i have a asrock extreme6/ac, with windows 10 pro plus the drives i mentioned if that helps

A couple of possible issues spring to mind:
1) Your board (I'm assuming it's the Z97 extreme 6/ac) has some Intel and some ASMedia SATA ports. Make sure the 840 Evo is on the Intel port. ASMedia should work but will be slower (not that much slower though!) but driver issues with the ASMedia ports could be causing problems - that's much less likely on the Intel ports.

2) How long have you had that 840 EVO? There are well documented issues with it's read speed for data "old"/"stale" data (i.e., data that has been written some time ago). Info: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9196/samsung-releases-second-840-evo-fix

Have you updated that Samsung firmware for the drive? Definitely worth getting the Samsung Magician Software. It will have tools to update the firmware which should avoid future issues, but also "refresh" the drive (which effectively we-writes stale data to a different part of the drive).

i just checked and the 840 evo needed to be updated. but when going back and trying to transfer the files again i noticed at least one folder, one of the most important, was not there. is there a way to recover? i know i should have backed up but had no drive

should i just one of those recovery programs. im new to windows 10 so i was hoping they had a new way.

since the firmware update the 840 evo read and write speeds are faster

turned out to be patch folders from previous installs of FL Studio. didn't really need them anyway. maybe this will help someone. wish i knew why this happens but i don use FL stock sounds.. some people do tho
