Hey guys
i have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron N5110
it has gone very slow of late
so im thinking of upgrading to an SSD

first question:
does my laptop have a sata 6 GB/s port?

i have the Kingston v300 240GB SSD on my mind
its the cheapest SSD currently on the market
i know it doesnt have great write speeds
but im more concerned about read speeds

i have a Crucial MX100 on my desktop and its running great
even though that SSD is also criticized for its poor write speeds

can anybody please suggest if i should go with this upgrade
and if there is any other SSD around this price that will do a better job

Don't worry about the SATA III, the bandwidth helps, but the real benefit to a SSD is the low access times. The access times are typically 2 orders of magnitude better than an HDD. My wife's older Core 2 system is nearly as fast as my Haswell system when it comes to booting and starting applications. Most workloads are lots of small files rather than a few large files and that's really where the SSD's shine.

I have no experience with Crucial or Kingston when it comes to SSD's, but I have plenty of experience with Samsung SSD's. They are very good. They finally sorted out the issues with the 840 EVO drives. The 850 EVO drives are awesome as well.
Just checked the Dell forums and it looks like the Inspiron N5110 only supports SATA 2.

As far as SSD suggestions I personally favor the Samsung 850 EVO. Although the EVO runs about $10 more than the Kingston I think the extra money for the 2 years longer warranty justifies the price.
