[SOLVED] SSD upgrade path

Hey guys. I'm plannin on getting a new SSD. Currently I have a Samsung Evo 840 250GB for O.S. and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD which is more than 7 years old (yeah, it can die at any time).
I have my doubts. Should I keep my Samsung SSD for O.S. and get, for example, a 1TB SSD for my Data? (I have also my Steam games folder there)
Second, are traditional Sata 2.5 form SSD's such as Crucial MX500 /Samsung EVO860 the way to go? Or m2 SSD's are better? (I've heard they last less than regular SSD's and may overheat, same with m2 NVMe.
My pc specs are below in my signature.

If your current 840 EVO is performing OK, leave it. Add another 1TB SATA III SSD to replace the ancient Seagate.

The 2x 840 EVO's in my system are still performing just like new, after almost 5 years of 24/7 ops.

By the way, do you suggest me to go for a traditional SATA III 2.5" SSD or a m.2 SSD (not NVMe) ?

Either way.
No performance difference.

Use of the M.2 may disable one or more SATA ports on the motherboard.

Personally if your current SSD is working fine and your happy with it, why change it?
