I wnat to drop an SSD into my XPS desktop (i5 with 8GB Ram and 1.5TB HDD).

In researching reviews on Amazon and Newegg, just about every brand of 250 GB SSD has a handful of very low scores due to failure after a short time or even inoperable right out of the box.

Am I just asking for more headaches trying to add an SSD?

Every drive will have a low rate of failures even when new. Also those failures are much more often reported than the good drives. So you may have 1,000 good drives with only 10 people posting a good review and 10 bad drives with all 10 posting a bad review. If you don't do some research you would think that the drive has a 50% failure rate that way.
