I’m looking at getting an ssd just for my os and maybe a couple of games. Amazon sell a sandisk one with sata to usb cable for cloning your files, programs and os. Would I need this cable or could I just connect the ssd to the motherboard and do it that way? Also would I just have to change the bio and make it boot from ssd instead of hdd once done? Cheers for any help you can give me

Solution
Be careful with what SSD you're buying, budget priced ones may not have dram.
Here's a video saying why that's bad.
I usually just search "does 'name of ssd model' have dram?"
And yes, you can plug it into your motherboard via SATA cable, I would make sure you have the extra port on your motherboard and a cable, not every SSD comes with one.
You can either switch the hard drive with the SSD and plug the hard drive in through a different SATA after, or you can select your boot device through boot order in your BIOS.
Sata to USB is also slower than just plugging it into your motherboard, definitely hard wire it to your motherboard if possible.
And here's a nice how-to from How-To-Geek on the topic, personal favorite: link...
