[SOLVED] SSD Vs . HDD in 2020

My current HDD is starting to show its age so I've been thinking about replacing it. I know that when I bought my HDD (2014) SSDs were not nearly as mainstream as they are now. While I have upgraded my boot SSD, I can't say that I have kept up on the mass storage side of the SSD vs HDD argument.

Short Version: I was thinking about replacing my mass storage drive with a 2TB SSD and was wondering if HDDs are still capable of way more reads and writes than an SSD or has that gap closed significantly?

So at what price range would I want to look at for the most "cost-effective" choice. What I mean by that is that I'm looking more at something like this -> or this and less like this.

I know that SSDs run optimally when they are cooler, so I want to make sure that whatever I buy isn't going to run like my 970 EVO+ (with a heatsink and exhaust fan directly over it) and run super hot while playing modern games like Doom Eternal.

Tl;dr Where do the bad drives end and the good ones begin?
