Hello there,
System specs:
1x1tb 7200rpm HDD
1x200gb 5200rpm HDD
1x256fb SSD (new)
Geforce gt 640
amd phenom ii x6 1055t
gigabyte ga-970A-ds3 (motherboard).

So basically, the issue is, i can't format the SSD.
i got it brand new today (off of amazon). its a Crucial MX100.
It took a while for the PC to recognise at all, but it did after 3 hours of fooling around. Now, i can partition the drive, and it says its healthy in Disk Management. It has a drive letter (B:), and has a size (238.47gb(don't really understand why its not the full 256gb)).
But, if i try to format it so i can actually place files on it and such, it will not. it justs say ''failed.''
I have tried formatting from windows explorer, formatting from disk management and formatting through DiskPart. None of which work. Diskpart places an error in event viewer, which says;
Level: Error
Source: Atapi
Event ID: 11
Task category:none

''The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\Ideport2.''

I have the SSD in Sata port 0.

Im not sure why this is happening. i've tried it with different sata cables and ports, it just doesn't work.
Any helps on the matter will be appreciated.
I really went to get it working, this is my first SSD and i just want to harness the speed of an SSD.

Definitely sounds faulty. Contact Amazon for a replacement.

As for the size, formatting the drive uses some space to store the format.
So why don't they just list the formatted size? Different formats and file systems take up more or less space.
Older formats like FAT take up less space than new ones like HFS and NTFS.

Okay. So it looks like im gonna have to get a replacement :/. im going to try formatting today (a whole new day) and see if it works, and also try installing windows onto it on Monday and see if that is any help. If those don't work then i guess ill get a replacement shipped.
