According to my searches, Bullzdozer AMD CPUs have that instruction set and though are AM3+ are backwards compatible with AM3 sockets, depending on MB manufacturer.
SSE4.1 is only the first part of SSE4 instruction set. SSE4.1 was first introduced in Intel Penryn core in January 2008. The first AMD microprocessors with SSE 4.1 support were Bulldozer-based FX-Series and Opteron 6200. These families were released in October and November 2011 respectively.
can anyone tell me if there is am3 socket processor which support sse4.1 instructions?
Hi,
only the AMD Bulldozer FX series microprocessors (AM3+) support the full set of SSE4 instructions (including AMD's SSE4a instructions). Although some AM3 motherboards support AM3+ CPUs, to the best of my knowledge they are not officially supported.
I don't think so. Am3's support the phenom ii cpu's which are k10 based. The fx series on am3+ is when amd started using bulldozer which is the first in the amd lineup to support sse 4.1 and 4.2. There might be a bios update for a particular am3 motherboard which allows using an fx cpu but it's not always a guaranteed solution. Some people have updated their bios claiming to support fx chips and it either has extremely limited fx support or still none at all.
