SSID Names with Powerline WiFi

In order to get Wifi coverage throughout my house I use a powerline ethernet adaptor. The adaptor then broadcasts a WiFi signal.

This signal has a different SSID than the main router. Is this necessary? Will devices be confused if they share the same SSID?

HAving one SSID would solve some issues (I think)

Solution
The problem with having 1 SSID is that unless the first one cuts outs completely and then the 2nd one is there, the device will still hold onto the weakest signal and not let go.

Example Living room you get 5 bars, full N 100+mbps, speed. Basement you get 1 bar, 1mbps, so you put another wifi device in the basement with the same SSID. As long as your device has that 1 bar, it will stay connected to the upstairs router. Only if you have no coverage in the basement, then would be a "seamless transition" to the same SSID.

PITA really. lol. I've tried this with multiple routers trying to create a big zone and it would still hold on to a weak connection.

Thanks for that.
The printer is closest to one SSID but the laptops seem to like the other SSID.

Seems as though the laptops will only print to a printer on the same SSID.
Guess I'll just have to manually switch over.
