hello everyone out there
my pc is and has been giving lots of problems for quite some time. was wondering whether anyone could give some suggestion on how to fix it. the specs are:
p3 500 slot 1, 512k L2
epox 6vba m/b
128mb pc100 sdram (64x2)
32mb geforce 2 mx (recently added, previously tnt2 m64)
creative vibra 128
seagate 10.2 5400 hdd
generic 1.44 floppy
50x generic cdrom drive
230w atx casing
aztech 56k lucent int modem
win me/98se/98

the problem is that it always hangs, freezes, and even blue screens in games, when online or some times when just using winamp only. have tried all os but still the same problems. i dont know what other info will be useful now but if you need to know anything pls let me know and i will gladly pass it on. thanx guys.

Could be a number of things. But, if you've tried different OS's it sounds like somewhere in the hardware. The only thing you can do is troubleshoot. Ensure that you have all drivers installed correctly first. Then, replace the RAM (maybe with someone else's or some laying around). Try to narrow it down by replacing each piece of hardware one thing at a time.

The best thing to do is to just yank everything out that you don't need (modem, sound, etc) and run the system barebones. See if you get any errors then. If you don't, slowly put one thing in at a time and test. If you still get errors- well then you've narrowed it down to vid. card, RAM, mobo, HD, and CPU. Simple =)

Sounds like one of your dimms is faulty. Run it with one dimm at a time. If one is faulty, the PC will not be able to boot with just the faulty dimm in. I have had similiar problems recently, with PC booting up ok, but apps causing system to hang, bluescreen, restart etc. Replaced the faulty ram, and system is rock solid again.. 😱)

PS. Via chipset based motherboards seem very fussy about the ram they are given.
