I'm not sure what to call it, but let's say standby.

Hi,

I have a desktop where I do most of my work. Sometimes I want to leave it on so I don't lose the files I am working on, however, my desktop is pretty noisy and consumes a lot of power. I want to be able to put my PC to standby and continue my work when I get back.

Solution seems very clear, but when I put my PC to Standby, it automatically awakes within a few minutes and resumes the system.. I'm not sure what I can do to fix this problem. Possibly some BIOS settings or hardware that's activating the computer, but I can't rule out what it is. Hopefully someone recognizes this problem and can tell me what to do.

System:
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77
Processor: Intel Core i7 3770K @ 4,6Ghz
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
RAM: 16GB G.Skill 2133Mhz
SSD: 2 x 256GB Samsung 850 Pro (non-RAID configuration)
HDD: 2 x Seagate 3TB drive
Audio: Asus Xonar D2X
GPU: 2 x Palit Jetstream GTX 680 4GB
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth 2014
Mouse: Mad Catz R.A.T. 7
Monitors: 3 x Philips 273e (all DVI-d) + Samsung P51D6900 tv (HDMI through Marrantz NR1504)
Audio device: Razer Tiamat 7.1 (also USB connected for power and such)

Well, this is pretty much all hardware that's connected to my PC. In case any hardware could interfere with the PC to wake it out of Standby, it would be one of those.

I hope someone can help out, thanks!

Solution
There are some potential culprits here. The first that comes to mind is "Wake on LAN" is enabled in your BIOS. Network signals could be awakening the system.

The second options I've heard of, but must admit don't have the appropriate knowledge is enabled C1/C2/C3orC4 states.

Again, not 100% comfortable giving you advice on the C states, so you're probably best of waiting for somebody more knowledgable

Solution

I have tried some more solutions. I have searched every device in device manager which could awake my system and disable it (mouse, keyboard, etc.). After some tests, no result. At last I disabled the Wake-on-LAN feature* and every other Wake feature in de Network adapter device (not in de BIOS, however, I do know Wake-on-LAN is enabled), after I put my PC to sleep mode it stayed at least 10 minutes in sleep (normally it would wake up). I will do some more testing tomorrow, but for now I'll pick this as te solution, thanks!

* I didn't want to disable it at first, because I desperatly tried to make Wake-on-LAN work on my PC, but somehow it can't get it to work anymore, eventhough it did work before.. Since I gave up on this already, I guess it's OK to fully disable it.
