Staples as a reasonable memory sink?

Hello,

I looked at the ATI overclocker list, I saw someone post it somewhere, but I dont feel like finding it again. Anyway. . .someone cooled their memory with staples. I thought this was quite ingenious, but I was wondering how affective one would expect his to be? Are staples really that heat conducive? I'm planning on buying a Radeon 8500le, and right now I'm planning on adding on the ThermalTake Ramsinks ($12). But, I dont plan on changing the voltage, or flashing the bios, so my only overclocking would be with Rage3d. Do you think that staples would suffice for such a task? Just wondering, seemed like a very creative idea. Thanks for the feedback. 😀

weeeeeellllllllll, staples would cool down the RAM better than nothing, thats for sure - though staples are usually made out of aluminum and they're tiny, you'd need a massive amount of thermal adhessive and staples... well, if you wanna go for it, but i think gettin some cheap-o heatsinks or anythin else will be better, heh.

Heheheh, and you thought I was done</b>

maybe office type staples are alluminum, but heavyer grade is hardend steel. thats about 10 times less effective than alluminum.

I remember that thread. He was planning on using large copper staples of the type used to close up shipping boxes. As I recall he didn't actually go through with it and wound up purchasing commercial RAM heatsinks instead.

Simple question to ask yourself... what happens if one of them gets loose?
