I think I'd start with a flea market or garage sales. Most dot matrix printers of any brand had square section shafts on the printer platen so you may be able to find a whole printer with a handle that you can transfer or modify. Otherwise I'd be looking at a wooden door knob, a drill and some epoxy resin.
