subscribe to game pass for pc and get it for a lot less ... (as well as up to 453 other games for the small cost of the sub per month). $5 a month is much cheaper than full price, then you can decide when to download it.

Only thing stopping me getting it is storage space. I need another ssd before I have the space for this game. If it worked on hdd, I already have the space.

Its a bethesda game, it needs time to be fixed/modded to work. Its much better than previous ones as Microsoft made them spend more time bug fixing. They wanted to release it last year.

I got it free with a graphics card purchase. I haven't played it a lot and so far my opinion is that I am glad I didn't buy it. It isn't to say I won't try more of it, and haven't seen or had any bad performance issues with it, just sort of lacking any excitement so far. It's like running your humdrum day from your PC instead of a job you hate.

IDK, games seem to be going for this realism thing while forgetting that it is supposed to be fun and engaging at the same time.

Its been a month and bethesda added a FOV slider... such a big accomplishment :)

Other games have fairly major patches out in the first month.

There is stuff in this game that people complained about in skyrim which is in this game also.

Bethesda seem keen to take all the money and let the moders fix things. If it is on game pass I would go that route. Depending on how you play it you likely can easily complete the game before it is removed from game pass.

but seriously... they used same game engine for last 20 years... just adding to it. So no wonder same bugs happen.

how well it runs depends on if gpu AMD or Nvidia.

As for leaving game pass, first party games published by Microsoft don't leave. Whereas other 3rd party games last one year. All the Bethesda games aren't going anywhere.
There are exceptions, it depends on licensing as there are No Forza Motorsport games on there apart from latest. Due to licensing with car makers.

Maybe some more general comments ignoring the technical. If you really liked skyrim then you will like this game. With a slight spoiler they almost just renamed "dragon" born to "star"born and changed the story around a bit.
The main game quest line is pretty much what what you would expect. No choices you make really make any big difference just like skyrim.

The skill system is also similar and has almost as many useless skills as skyrim. Some of the crafting is worthwhile but a lot of it is is not. It is fine I guess though for what it is.

Most the stuff that makes it different from say skyrim is also the most useless. The ship combat is trivial once you learn the tricks even with a crappy ship. Even if you win there is not much reason to do it. You either get some resources or you can capture the ship and sell it for credits but there are much better ways to make money. You can build much better ships than the ones you find even if you want to keep the ones you capture.

The no man sky planet exploration you see is also pretty useless. It is used along with base building but that to serves little purpose and has the massive item placement issue you saw in skyrim. I guess if you really wanted to role play it you could use the bases to collect all the resources. Since you can buy pretty much everything from various vendors and you will have massive amounts of currency there is little need to do this.

Then again skyrim had the same issue they never balanced the money part of the game so it was worth the effort to do certain things.

I guess I'll pass for now. I have played Outer Worlds and No Man's Sky in the past year or two. Space themed games aren't my favorite. I think I'll play Assassin's Creed Mirage and see how much time I can squeeze out of it.

Get a game pass subscription and try it for a month or so. There’s quite a selection of games in there. I usually play on Xbox series x now but game pass is worth it. I played gears of war remastered, gears 2,3,4 and 5 from it as well as the 3 fable games so there’s quite a bit of content there.

It depends what hardware you have and what settings you're OK with. On my 8700K, GTX 1080, 32 GB RAM rig, it has to be run on a mix of Low-Med settings at 1080p with no more than 60% res scale. Even then in heavy fire fights I get noticeable lag now and then. It also STILL crashes even with the latest update, maybe not as much as before, but enough to be annoying and have to save often.

There's also the fact that the difficulty is a bit unbalanced in that space dog fights are MUCH harder than ground fights. So you need to invest a fair bit of time and skill points into things that help in dog fights, and even things like Starship Design to build or at least upgrade a ship well beyond stock. And when you start doing that, if you think you've done it enough, trust me, you're still going to need a better ship. It helps to have something with good speed, shields, and weapon range/damage, so you can attack, get out of range to reload and/or repair, then snipe from a distance.

The ship builder can also be hard to figure out, but once you do, it can be fun and yield MUCH better space fighting ability. There's a LOT to the game, despite what some say about barren planets, but if you want to get to the max wearable armor, which is Starborn, it takes going through NG+ a whopping 10 times, which needless to say can make it feel very repetitious. To a degree by the choices you make in certain conversations and taking undercover quests vs overt combat, you can minimize the danger you get into regarding space battles, but there WILL be some you have to do.

It's one of those games that can be very fun and immersive, but also very frustrating and annoying. With the last patch there was noticeable performance and stability improvements, but I wouldn't say it's well polished yet. I don't really feel it's a game not worthy of playing though, so maybe at least try it on Game Pass as mentioned. It's the cheapest way you're going to be able to try it and see. I wouldn't say 2 hrs of play will necessarily be enough to go on, so I doubt Steam's refund policy would suffice.

I played Outer Worlds, and though I didn't like it as much as Starfield, it DID have much better performance and stability. If space games aren't your thing though, you may not like it, especially the space battles. It could be that it plays better on gamepad than keyboard/mouse like many are saying though. The ground fights are fine on KB/M, but the space fights on KB/M make the ships feel squirrelly handling. They're a bit more responsive in cockpit view, but between the squirrelliness and the more cramped view, it's still a chore.
