News Starlink shut down on United regional jets — Reports of radio interference on Embraer E175 aircraft prompt switch off

VHF has been a long standing problem in the aviation industry, and it's about time they upgrade to something newer.
Issues like: "stepping" on a transmission (eg Tenerife air disaster), generally poor SNR and lots of static, or someone maliciously interfering on the same frequency (a federal crime).

One potential replacement for VHF radio is LDACS, but it's slated for introduction in 2028. Who knows how long it will take to become a worldwide standard.
