Hi.I built my pc myself a few years back for the kids.Lately its showing
up a few blue screens and locking up now and again. The hard drive is a
total scrapyard of various shareware/demos/half uninstalled software. My
wife has moved the pc around the room and many of the usb periferals are
not plugged in their proper slots. The printer wont communicate..the list
is endless.I wanted to do a system restore to when i first built the pc,
but it only will go back to september (when i believe my daughter
installed sp2).My only option is to unplug everything and re-install xp
and all the other bits and bobs.(Will probably take me a day:/).Can i
just put the xp cd in my drive and start the pc up and install windows
again? A friend told me it would just probably install a second version
of windows on the drive, causing more problems having 2 versions of the
operating system on the pc.Do i have to format the drive or something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..i`m a complete novice at this.
System:2400 P2 ,512 mb ram, MSI motherboard,gforce 4 graphics,extigy

To do a clean install boot the Windows XP install CD-Rom. When you get to
the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found. After you
delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again restart the pc booting
the CD-Rom to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with your new
install.

Be sure to apply SP2 or at least these to your new install before connecting
to any network.
