I was trying a different keyboard and mouse. Then my Start button doesn't
function. I put back the old equipment but its still dead. Any clues as to
where I should look for the problem? I can right click My Computer /
Documents and Settings / User / Start Menu so I'm not paralysed but it would
be great to get it back again.

Tried it several times to no avail. I should have been more clear in the
original
post. By the "Start button" I meant when I click Start with the mouse. The
Windows key seems to work fine except that it doesn't launch the Start Menu.
Neither does Alt+S and the other shortcuts.
