Start in sleep mode..? really VISTA

Hello,
My Hp desk top trys starting, and the screen seems to only be in sleep mode, or hibernate..BLACK..and switch is blinking.. OY??!! Help?

What have you tried? Safe mode? Startup repair?

What are the specs of the laptop? Have you tried connecting it to an external monitor?
