Start screen help

I am using 8 on a non touch laptop and find when I am working in other programs such as Powerpoint or Word the start / splash screen keeps appearing when I am in the top left corner or on the right side. Is there anyway to disable this function as it is REALLY annoying!!

Either get used to them, or you can turn them off via various shell enhancements.

classic shell works pretty well. You can turn those corner things off, and even have you computer boot strait to desktop if you set it up that way. There are other programs too, classic shell just happens to be the one I'm using. (it gives you back your Actual start menu too). As far as I know, there is no way to disable them without an external program though.
