Start up password

Hello,
i am the one in charge of doing everything with my mothers computer and her boyfriend was denied access so she asked me to change her windows password as she asked i did so. however, he decided to try to get in and ended up setting a startup password so now when you boot the computer you have to enter the password before you can even get to the windows screen. he gave me the password but said he doesnt know how he did it to undo it and my mom is freaking out. can anyone please tell me how to change that please!!!!

well it sounds like he put a password on the hard drive. go to bios and under security tab you will have an option to edit the hard drive password or remove it if you know the current password
