start up problems

hi i am trying to start my acer travel mate 2480 but all i am geting is the start up screen and the these diffrent opition from the software that i downloaded are coming up ( ubuntu ). such as ubuntu, advance options for ubuntu and when u click that it has safe mode but when i click it, it says error then memory test. can you plz help.

Did it work before? Is this a new install? What are the results of the memory test?
