Start up time doubled ?

Hello Guys
Recently my system upon start up would display a black screen with a blinking cursor which moves to different positions before the motherboard logo appears and before windows starts. This significantly increased my boot time and i was wondering how i could fix this. I recently installed a third hard drive and my system recently shorted out due to a connector touching the metal on the case so hopefully neither of theses are to blame.
