Starting my next build 100% for gaming Ryzen 1700X or i7 7700K

I'm having a hard time trying to decide which CPU to go with with a Ryzen 1700X or i7 7700K

I suggest the 1700 because it overclocks about the same as the 1700x. The 1700 comes with a good cooler which makes it about $50~100 cheaper. Thats a full video card step up which no CPU can compete against.

I'll be using a water cooled setup though.I can get the 1700X or the i7 7700K for $279 thoughts

I see well get the 1700x because AM4 should get the zen+ or zen 2 update. The 1151 on the otherhand probable will not support Intels Coffee Lake 6 cores.

Can you recommend a good board to go with it? I was hoping to get Skill Z trident ram

if its purely gaming i'll say the 7700k cause it still do better in gaming, but everything else the 1700x walks all over it and be more future proof, but right now the 7700k is still the king of gaming cpu's (black magic). also new intel/amd cpu's coming out around the corner and aggressive pricing for both platforms

That is nice doesn't look like it has enough PCI slots. But looks good.

Unless also planning on a career in gaming while streaming, the 7700K is currently faster....in every game. $279 is an awesome price, one not to be repeated soon, jump on the 7700K in my opinion..

I would agree but with coffee lake 6 cores the 1151 is on its last leg. It wasn't made to support 6 cores. The AM4 on the other hand should get Zen+ or Zen 2.

So I decided to go with....BOTH. I actually got lucky and got one of them for free! I am going to use the Ryzen to replace the 4690K m-itx build down the line at some point. When I get into streaming. For now though the main tasking gaming.

not full of high hopes for Coffeelake 8700K at only 3.7 GHz to dethrone the 7700K in gaming any time soon.....
