Starting SoU, at 9th level

So, I imported my ftr4/mnk4/weapon master 1 into SoU for the heck of
it. This is cool. There's not much challenge blowing through the
hordes of kobolds and gnolls so far, but it's damn pretty to watch.
Also, this way it feels like you really _are_ that dwarf wizard's
"star pupil", as opposed to just another random 1st level guy.

The maps are a lot more interesting than they were in the OC. Nice to
see that they also toned down the stone of recall infinite-teleport
cheese.

Are the henchmen of any use? I've picked up the half-orc (X-whatsit
the barb/sorc, this character seems to have a liking for half-orcs)
and he's been like a fifth wheel so far. This is no doubt because I'm
8 levels higher than the assumed starting level, but I assume that gap
will narrow over time.

Starting SoU at 9th level you have no need for henchmen. I've tried it with
a high level character and it's fun for a while but there's really no
challenge to the game.

In ch. 1 the two henchmen you can pick are useless for every player char
with a level above 7. When you come to the next chapter, I recommend to hire
Deekin, he's a must...

Heh. I was getting tired of Xanos' rantings anyway.

That good, is he? He is kinda endearing, in that comic-relief-mascot sort
of way.

He's not effective in combat, but his dialog is great.

I don't think I agree with that completely. No he's not a tank, but
his bardic skills definitely strengthened the group and I thought he
definietly carried his weight. plus his lines are good few some great
laughs. :)

Deekin is awesome. He's also awesome in combat when you get to HoTU.
