Hi there,

I play a game called World of Tanks, along with many others. But this is the only game i'm having the issue with. When i start the game it goes to 1280x720p for a split second and then gets back to my native res 1920x1080, which is also the ingame setting i have. Big deal you might think. But everytime this happens my desktop icons get rearranged in a not so nice way. I have been trying to find a solution for the past hour but nobody seems to have this particular issue, hence why im writing this now.

If anybody could help me with this in any way please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards, Joeri.

I know what your issue is. Your desktop icons are sorted by name, but it sorts them in multiple groups, doesn't it?

Some programs put their icons into users/YOURUSER/desktop, others put their icons into users/public/desktop. Both are displayed together on your desktop, but because they aren't from the same folder they don't sort correctly. If you're the only user on the computer, yank them out of the public/desktop folder and put them in YOURUSER/desktop instead. They should remain sorted correctly from then on.

The reason they rearrange themselves is because whenever the resolution changes the desktop gets re-rendered; this has the same effect as selecting "Refresh" from the context menu or hitting F5 on the desktop.

It is somewhat odd that WoT changes your resolution every time you launch it; I've played for over six years as of last month, and it's never done that to me. Does your shortcut perhaps have an accidental command line parameter?

Thanks for all the answers guys, but i found a way to fix it.

I found out about the Geforce Experience feature to optimize game settings. I downloaded the program, installed the latest drivers, still nothing, but then as i optimised WoT it was gone. It has worked flawlessly since. Thanks for all you guys help still tho :)

The underlying issue with your icons is still there, I guarantee it. Go to your desktop and press F5. If the icons don't rearrange themselves just like they did when WoT was messing with your resolution, then I guess I'm wrong after all.

Ah, that's why. When your resolution dropped, Windows rearranged your icons to make sure they all still fit on the now-smaller screen space; because auto-arrange is off, it didn't automatically realign them to where they were on the bigger resolution.
