Hi. I have Win 11 with the latest updates.

Problem: I have multiple windows users created which reflects the many different hats I wear throught the day. When I switch between users, the system tray icons (startup apps) take a long time to appear (~4 to 5 min), whereas if I reboot the computer, all the startup icons/apps appear very (~ 1 min).

What could be the issue? The PC is a very recent custom build and it has an i9 process with 96GB of DDR5 RAM. I'm puzzled as to why such a fast PC should lag like this as described above. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

try downloading microsoft rammap64.exe, find the menu item for
empty and click each one.
then switch users and do it again. then switch back and see if it is faster.

I am thinking windows might be loading programs into standby memory for one user. then when you switch users it has to remove the standby memory programs and load new standby memory programs for the new user. Otherwise, I would think it would be a security risk if they did not.

clearing the standby memory with rammap64.exe might effect the timing.

guess you could have large user profiles or roaming profiles for different users that have to be loaded.
google how to check user profile size in windows
or how to check roaming profiles size in windows

i have seen cases where a user profile included temp directories and these were being backed up to a server and restored when you logged back in. resulted in a huge user profile size that got bigger each time they read something on the internet.
it was taking up to 20 minutes to log in. system admin was using profiles as a poor mans backup program.
