Startup repair failing...

Installed some Windows updates and did the post install restart and it went to startup repair but it says it cannot repair this computer automatically, have had this happen before and would normally restore to a before I did the update but it's saying I have no restore point to go to. Tried running the repair from the Windows disc but that doesn't work either. Anything I can do or do I have to reinstall?

if it doesnt give you the option to start windows normally than reinstall is the best option in my opinion. you're going to want to check that your hard drive is not failing too. use data lifeguard diag after the reinstall here: http://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx

No, boot to your installation disc, get to the command line option and use the command line interface to run the bootrec.exe commands like so...

That will walk you through it. No need to reinstall yet.

No problem, glad to be of service. Sorry about the typo's - I was answering this on my way home from work, on a bus lol.

Also, a fresh install is always nice. I perform one 1-2 times a year. At least now you can boot into Windows and easily back some things up
