Could someone lend some advice on how to prevent static electricity problems when installing a new motherboard? It's pretty dry, and my house seems more charged up than usual.

thanks.

Ensure the power unit is properly earthed (grounded) to the case.
Connect the power cable to the mains. *****Leave the power off*****
This will earth it some more.
Wear an anti-static wrist strap, and attach it to the case.
Try not to create static by scuffing footwear on the floor.
Avoid working near powered appliances.

Steps to improve static protection in the dry conditions of the Sahara desert:

Step 1. Come into yer room with the wet rug.
Step 2. Spread the rug over the working place on the floor.
Step 3. Put yer parts onto the rug.
Step 4. Put yer body onto the rug.
Step 5. Complete the installation.
Step 6. Dry the installed part in the well ventilated area.

PS: thank you letter is not necessary.

In case you did not know it: when installing memory all (I mean all) memory manufacturers suggest to unplug the power cable first.

Radio-Smack has wrist grounding straps from $4.5 to $7.5. Both have a 1Megohm resistor in-line. The higher priced one has conductive elastic for the band, and a coiled wire, which extends at least 2.5meters when it's streched out. Just hook one up to the face-plate screw of an outlet, and you're all grounded.

not true,

you should have the case plug in in so that the ground acts as a ground for the memory and case..
the trick is to have the switch on the power supply turned off not just the case switch, that wasy the 750 mA atx standby power is OFF

hope that helps
