Static discharge on case causes monitors to temporarily go blank

Lately I've noticed that whenever I get a static buildup on my chair next to my computer case, it'll occasionally discharge on the computer case. Whenever this happens one or both of my monitors go blank for about a second and then everything is back to normal. I know this is probably a silly question that's been beaten to death, but I was wondering if this is harmful to the components and can cause long term damage. I know that the case is supposed to be grounded and act as a Faraday cage for the motherboard and the rest of the components, but I can't help but be a little unsettled by the fact that the monitors go out whenever there is a discharge. Is there any cause for concern or is it totally harmless?

Solution
No, just check your power output at the place you plug everything in. It all starts from there, things inside the case are all grounded on way or other.

How would I go about fixing it? Would I have to open up the case and check to see if the PSU is properly secured and there's no wires touching the back plate of the case or something? The weird thing is that this started happening only recently after I upgraded my system with a new GPU, and prior to that I didn't seem to have this problem at all. Also, how would I be able to check if there's already been permanent damage done?
