Question Stay on AM4 or Upgrade to AM5?

Hi all, my current setup is:
Ryzen 3600x
2060 Super 8gb
MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI (sadly never got to upgrade with this mobo)
16gb DDR4 3000MHz
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G+, 80 Plus Gold 750W
Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler
The build has been slowing down after 6 years. Even on CS2 I can't reach more than ~160 FPS (very tough to get) which sucks considering I have a 1080p 240hz monitor. Wondering what the best option would be to upgrade to continue playing competitive games at high FPS or even stuff like battlefront 2.

I'd like to stick to 1080p, but in the future I may go 1440 (possibly 4k (?)). I know the 5800x3d is a heavy lifter and good choice but its stock is low and price extremely high. I'm not in the loop about AM5, what is looking hot on the market? I want to pair a new CPU with at least a 4070 ti or better. Any combos that seem worth (interested about 7800x3d 9800x3d, etc). Any 50 series GPUs worth diving into or good pairs?

USA, budget is ~1000$, it can go up it can go down if sufficient
PSU is overkill but it's a steal at $90.

I've decided to up the budget. I'm thinking right now to keep all my current parts but I'm looking to change out my CPU, GPU, MOBO, RAM, possibly power supply.

I'm going to go for either the 7800x3d or 9800x3d. Likely a 5070ti or 9070xt. Motherboard, whatever is reasonable I'm looking to spend < ~150$. RAM, I'm looking at spending ~80 for 6000 MHz 32gb.

My main question is, is it worth to go for a 9800x3d or would a 7800x3d suffice? I mean, the difference right now is 100 dollars (9800x3d vs 7800x3d) which could be used more wisely to buy a 5070ti instead of a 9070xt (difference right now for me is about 100 dollars as well). Or, I ball out and drop the extra 100 and just go 9800x3d and 5070ti instead of 7800x3d and 5070ti.

I doubt you’d notice the difference between a 5700x3d with a 9070xt/5070ti and 7800x3d/9800x3d with the same cpu.

Maybe a little when playing at 1080p because the gpu plays less of a role then, but still.

On the other hand going to AM5 will give you a faster system and more of an upgrade path (even if hardly anyone actually upgrades a cpu). If you go that route I’d go for the 9800x3d/9070xt combo because it’ll probably last the longest before you need another upgrade, but that’s just me.

Below is a chart showing the minimum FPS which is the most relevant for competitive gaming at 1080p+ with some graphics cards a couple years ago when CS2 came out.

Source.

Given the above, I would do the following if you want a new platform you can upgrade with later:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor ($195.00 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock B850 Pro-A WiFi ATX AM5 Motherboard ($177.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL28 Memory ($127.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI SHADOW 3X OC GeForce RTX 5070 12 GB Video Card ($549.00 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Montech CENTURY II 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.90 @ Amazon)

Or this to save some money now and replace the platform when a new one comes for AM6 or potentially Intel in a few years:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 3 GHz 8-Core Processor ($299.99 @ Amazon)

Something important to note would be that the 5070 Super will be coming soon at some point for the same or close to the same price as the 5070 but with 18GB of VRAM and increased performance. That new card may be worth waiting for while using the 2060 in the meantime.

I would do something like this for around $1000, then consider a platform swap in the next 3 years. If you have a microcenter nearby, they may have some more gpu and cpu options available to you.

IMO there would be a value to using something like the 5800XT, which is $141 on Amazon right now and IIRC comes with the Prism which would make the older 3xxxX CPU more value added sale.

Take a look at 32GB 3600 RAM.

IMO would also take a look into an AMD graphics solution in order to take advantage of the better sync options and strong rasterization. Your current power supply should be workable for many of the current strong side offerings.
