Why is origin so crap and the worst thing is steam isn't much better. They are two of the worst pieces of software I have ever seen. Opinions and thoughts appreciated.

Ive got no real experience of Origin. Steam on the other hand I think is great, especially when there's a sale on...

I have no issues with the steam software itself, I find the store easy to use, I can find the bargains, I can find the games I want in the market no problems, checkout with paypal is simple enough, set the games downloading and a few hours later they are ready to play.

Ive got a lot of titles and a lot of DLC and havent ran into any major issues in the years Ive been using it. 70 titles on my own account (tons of dlc) plus many more on the accounts for my wife and the kids that have their own accounts so far.

If I had a internet connection that wasnt upto the heavy data use then it would be an issue. But the software itself I cant see that its so bad, it can get a little slow when theres a big sale on, but it works fine, at least I find it easy enough...

Steam is a storefront and Origin is EA's desire to inhabit the digital marketspace alongside Valve. Neither one exists to be a suitable game hub and neither is particularly elegant in any way. Steam is arguably a worse piece of software, but Origin doesn't have the wide storefront selection so it's easy to thumb your nose at. To answer your question "why" I suppose the answer would be, because gamers will buy games no matter what. Look at Diablo 3.

why do you think they are rubbish?

I use both and im happy with them. Yes orgin fails on the backupside of things but both do what they are meant to do and thats allow you to download games. So please explain why you think they are rubbish.

Personally I think Steam is great, Origin I haven't tried and don't plan on.

Steam is great for cheap games (summer sale should be soon), backup (just copy the folder 😛 ) and ease of use.
Yes it has the odd bug in general if used correctly its fairly hassle free.

More often than not, Steam's sales are reflected in other places as well. If you watch Amazon and Gamersgate during Steam sale events, you can sometimes snipe an even cheaper price from one of those sources. Probably the best thing about Steam (or Origin) is that they stimulate competition in the digital distribution marketplace, and that is good for all of us as consumers. Don't narrow your focus on any one source though or you stand to miss out on a deal or two.

origin.steam =sucks. ea team helped me on live chat in 2secs problems sorted. i bought hl2 diamond edition costed me £75 and i got cap ,t shirts, posters. now i cant get into my steam, acount so ive lost my hl2 contacted steam they asked me for the visa bill i got the game for. that was from 2004 like im gonna have that 8 years on.steam =idiots

I use both, steam has never been a problem, but origin has one major flaw... as an English ex-pat living in Thailand the only origin store I can access is in Thai with absolutely no option for an English translation = major fail imo

They are both terrile pieces of software they both have problems with cahce and have numerous faults and erros not to mention the horrible customer support/service.

I for one don't use either to a very large extent. I prefer having my game on physical discs rather than digital downloads so for me they only serve as a form of DRM.

In total I only have 4 games that connects to Origin / Steam and they are Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Crysis 2 and Mass Effect 3. Of course whenever BioWare decides to release Mass Effect 3 single player DLCs I'll have to buy 'em / download 'em thru Origin.

Steam is amazing, Origin is OK

steams has one of the biggest gaming communities centralized into a hub where they can get invovled with developing, editing, choosing indy games to get published and much much more. If you dont like steam dont use it, we wont miss you : )

Go look at the summer sale going on now, even what you dont see on the home page (search) and see if you can lie to yourself that those kinda of sales are matched anywhere in the gaming industry

let me fix that for you

maybe now you can stop lying to yourself and learn the concept of "shop around"
