Steam - Are game downloads limited to 300 mbps?

I currently have internet speeds of 330 down / 20 up. My provider is offering an upgrade to 1000 / 100 for a nominal increase, which I was seriously considering because I'd like to download games faster. However, someone I know told me that Steam limits downloads to 300 mbps, regardless if your connection is faster. Is this true? Thank you in advance for your responses.

You should be able to saturate that with Steam, i've seen 80MB/s, 125MB/s doesn't seem unreasonable.

Of course, if you're using a HDD you'll never get beyind 50MB/s. An SSD would keep up though.

There could be quite a few other factors limiting you when you get that fast though, like your ethernet connections all being rated and actually running at 1Gbit. And the fact that the servers from you to your steam server may not let you go that high. The internet is like a series of post offices and if one of them along the route to your destination is slow you'll be stuck with it.
