Steam Broke The Computer?!

Hello!

My husband runs windows 7, and today he installed steam (fresh, it has never been on this machine). Upon finishing it asked him to restart, and when he did he could not boot at all.

He was unable to fix it at all, and ended up having to go through the.. thingy in the boot screen that lets you wipe the computer (I am not great with technical stuff, I hope that made sense).

He was only able to regain use of his computer after a wipe and reinstall of windows 7!!

I am wondering if anyone has any explanation/help in case this happens again, or any idea of what happened. This has never happened to me (I play on steam a lot) but I work out of my computer and am now terrified this will happen to me too...

I appreciate any answers as to what happened and how to deal with this/prevent it.. or really anything at all that can explain what steam did to my husband's computer.

Thank you,
- Red.

I don't think I've ever had Steam ask for a reboot after installing, so my guess would be that it was one of two things:

1.) He somehow used a non-official Steam installer (Very unlikely)
2.) Windows was int he process of installing updates at the same time and it was asking for the reboot, and that's where the issue actually came from.

I've installed Steam on many, many machines and never had anything like this happen, so I'd say the chances of something like that happening to you are slim.
