Hello,

I have in my computer 2 discs, one a samsung SSD and the other is a WD Black 1TB HDD, i have been havin this problem on Steam when trying to update games when after some time trying to download the update i get the Disc Write Error, i thought it was just a bug and since i havent cleaned the discs for a while i reinstalled windows, btw Windows 10 64bits Home Edition, after that the same problem happened when i try to install a game, it just starts downloading the game at 500kbs (my bandwitch is 200mb i usually download games on steam at 5/6 MB) after 5/6 seconds it stops and after a while it starts again at the same speed and always repeting this process, eventually it stops for good and the error Disc Write Error appears. I thought it was the disc but then i installed origin did the exact same thing, installed on the HDD downloaded a game and no problem, installed League of Legends and again no problem, since then i have formatted the disc again, reinstalled steam, checked my settings, tried another Sata Cable and port, used WD tool to check the disc and no erros found, i tried everything and the problem continues, i tried installing on the SSD and it works just fine, can some help me plz? And sorry for bad english

Welcome to the TH community, @Ov3rRated!

I'm sorry to hear about your performance issues with the WD Black HDD. 🙁 First of all, make sure you have backed up all important data from the hard drive elsewhere. Afterwards, I'd strongly recommend you check the SMART attributes by running the QUICK as well as the EXTENDED tests from WD's Data LifeGuard utility again. It might also be a good idea to get a more detailed reading on those by running the DOS version of the software. You should be able to find it in the Product Downloads, once you select the WD Black drive. When you create a bootable flash/USB with the utility, it will allow you to run the same tests without booting into Windows OS.

Meanwhile you should...

Meanwhile you should also check the warranty of the WD drive and see if it's still covered.

Hope it helps. Keep me posted!

Hello :) thanks for your support i actually did both the quick and extended tests and havent found any error, after formating the disc again and having the same problem i decided to reinstall windows again and it did work, my problem is finnaly solved.
I dont know why windows caused me this trouble since its not installed on the WD HDD but on a Samsung SDD nonetheless reinstalling really solved it. Still im very thankfull and i appreciate alot you help :)
