Question Steam download speeds are below my expectancy

I got 150mbps/s download speed and 170mbps/s upload speed (Speedtest results) and when download something huge on Steam it only downloads at 20mbps/s download speed, is it because of steam server traffic? Or its just capped at this point? Im using Ethernet cable with powerline adapters.

Are you sure it is Mb/s and not MB/s 20MB/s would be 160Mbps. Downloads are typically in megabytes (MB/s) where speedtest is in megabits (Mb/s).

You have to be cognizant of what Steam is actually reporting.

Steam generally reports in megaBytes, your ISP in megabits.

8:1 ratio.

20 megaBytes from Steam == 160 megabits from your ISP.

I consistently get 60MB download speeds from steam. My internet speed is supposed to be 400Mb but I get 480Mb. 6x8 = 48. It also depends on what you are doing during the download. If you keep all tabs closed it will stay pretty consistent. If you open a web page it can drop drastically.
