Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to download Dirt 3 from Steam, but the download speed is soo low, that i need to wait days before it is finished. Very often it downloads around 100KB/s, something up to 500, and after about 10 seconds, everytime 2 or 3 seconds nothing at all. I have already tried to change server, but it is neither working. With wifi is reach even lower speeds so far. Could i have to the with the modem, or does it have to do with the cable? Usually, i download with 5/6/7MB/s using the cable.

Please help me 🙁

A 1000 ping !!!
That is absolutely appalling DiabloSpyker for a broadband connection.
Are you using fiber optic cable or ADSL broadband.

Do you have an all in one solution, I mean is the router and cable modem in one box.

Or are you using a cable modem connected to a router via an Ethernet cable.
If so take the router out of the loop, connect the cable modem on it`s own to a computer with the Ethernet cable.

Then do a speed test again to confirm the router is indeed the cause.

If it stays the same with a 1000 ping then its your line into the house that is at fault, if the speed is better and you get a much lower ping.

The router is most likely blocking ports, or the hardware firewall of the router is set to high.

I can help...
Have you done a speed test of your broadband.
www.speedtest.net

If you get less than you know you should have, then it may be the case the ISP has a fair usage policy where they will limit your speeds if you are downloading alot of GB per day.

It could be the case that your hardware firewall of the router is blocking the steam ports. Or has flood protection that would cause the problems you would have. I had a Netgear router do this on me.

Try opening these ports in the router, in the port forwarding section and see if it helps.
UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive

Remember that the steam sale is currently occurring thus Steam will be experiencing the heaviest load it ever gets at the moment. This means that downloads could be a bit slower as the servers are being downloaded from by (possibly) millions of others. However also do everything that the post above this asks as well.

When trying to do a speedtest, i get 1,4MB/S and a ping of like 1000. I'm not really sure how to opoen ports in the router, but actually i think the problem might be that the Steam Summer Sales are the problem. That Steam is overloaded and a lot of people might have difficulties with their steam download speed.

I've been getting 4.5MB/s from the Chicago Steam servers for the past several days.

I can help you set up port forwarding inside the router but you will have to tell me the brand name of the router and the model number ok.

You were not using the steam servers when you did a speed test, it was another group of servers with nothing to do with steam, and you got a 1000 ping that tells you it`s your cable line at fault or the router you are using in between.
