Question Steam games wont run on my 2560x1440p/144hz monitor? Help, please.

New monitor: Samsung C32JG50 31.5" WQHD 144hz (Display Port) LED.

My PC:
Processor- Intel i7-8700K (Water Cooled)
Motherboard- Tampa2 Z370 LGA1151
Operating System- Windows 10 (64 bit)
Graphics Card(s)- Nvidia GTX1080Ti 11GB
Capture Card- Elgato 4K60 Pro
Memory- 16GB DDR4-2400
Hard Disc Drive(s)- 2TB
Solid State Drive(s)- 516GB
Power Supply- 500W Gold

The monitor displays and works great with Windows 10. I can get Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to runs at 2560x1440/144hz perfectly, however it's not a Steam game.

Steam games crash immediately and I cant figure out why. All help is appreciated, thank you.

Are you sure it's the resolution of the game that's crashing Steam? Just thinking that if it's crashing immediately, it could be a host of things.

Have you tried a fresh install of Steam?

If that doesn't work, can you go in and delete the local setting files for one of the Steam games so that it does not try and open in 1440?

Do the games crash when you have the Elgato hooked up? Steam might not like it. Try to diasable it and then try steam games.

Would Steam even be aware of Elgato? I'm just getting back into PC gaming, but doesn't Elgato capture the video from the output?

this one has PCIe connections and drivers which might interfere...

But 500watts PSU is also a bit on the weak side for the 1080ti

I would guess the larger resolution monitor makes the 1080 ti pull more power and your PSU is not adequate for that card to begin with.
