Steam stuck at "Checking for available updates"

I tried deleting all except steamapps and Steam.exe but still im stuck at this pop up window.

grab revo and uninstall steam, then download a new copy of steam from web page, and launch it, log in and let it update again

Question from Borg__ : "my steam is stuck at checking for available updates"

I deleted all execpt steamapps and Steam.exe. Now im stuck at checking for available updates

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Steam.
