It is Sierra's answer to anti-piracy. If you buy HL2 (Half Life 2) then
at least some of the time you have to play the game online so that
they (Sierra) can verify that you have a non-pirated version of HL2.

Is it just to start the game, or it's all the time i need to be online.
I mean, If I buy it then isn't enough!
So, if you dont have internet access you cant enjoy it...what a shame.!!!

The game is great but, I will never deal or buy a game again that has a steam or similar situation involved. I would be leery.

If you buy it from the store then upon installation you'll have to
connect and login to Steam to decrypt your files.

>From what I've heard you'll have to reauthenticate after a certain
amount of time (2 weeks?).

Alot of people seem to have difficulty enabling offline mode so they
have to disable their network connection to enable offline mode.

I'm just guessing here since I've only played the HL2 Demo and I didn't
use Steam to play it, and I refuse to pay to play Steam so I can't
really give you accurate information.

You only pay for the game just like buying anti virus software
and the like.
