I just got a new computer with Windows 8 installed. Every time I exit the game Red Orchestra 2, Windows 8 crashes to a red screen. Every time. This time in particular, Steam stopped starting up at all after I rebooted. I tried running it in compatibility mode- nothing. It doesn't show up in task manager at all.

Anyone know how to get Windows 8 to not be absolutely terrible for gaming PCs?

Make sure you are running the latest version of Steam from www.steampowered.com. You should not have to run Steam in compatibility mode as it was written for Windows 7 and will run natively in Windows 8.

I just re-installed Steam. It works now, but I had almost 100 gb of games that I'll have to re-install. I didn't notice an option to keep games installed because I just used Programs and Features to uninstall it.

Anyone know why Steam would suddenly stop working after a crash? Or why the PC red screens after playing certain games?

Inside Steam you can create an offline backup or your games. In your Games library, right click on each game and select "Backup game files..."

Also, my games exit properly. Make sure your system is fully patched, steam is fully patched, your games are fully patched and that all of your drivers are up to date.
