So i order my new ssd (samsung 256gb pro) and i want to install my OS and other stuff on it. ATM besides steam and videos on my other HDD, i have all my programs installed on the original HDD, including the OS. What are the full steps for reinstalling the OS on the new ssd. Thank you guys

First, how big is your current "C:" drive? If it is less than about 240 GB you can use Samsung's "Data Migration" software to clone your existing C: drive to the new SSD. Just be sure to D/L the latest version from the Samsung website because the version that ships with the SSD did not work for me.

If your C; drive is too big, then you'll have to disconnect your HDD and install Windows on the SSD. Be sure to set your SATA mode to "AHCI" in the BIOS for your SSD before installing Windows. After installing Windows, Windows updates and driver updates, you can shutdown and reconnect your HDD. Restart and copy over any files or documents that you need on the C: drive, but you'll have to re-install your programs. I believe that you can install Steam on the SSD and point it to your HDD for the installation of the game program files.

Good luck!

its more than 256...more like over 400gb....So i dont need to backup any files???? just after OS reinstall...install what programs i want on the ssd again??

All of your existing files will still be on the HDD, but you do have back-ups, don't you?

1: make abackup of your current important files at minimum.

When you're ready to reinstall windows -
1: insert the install DVD and then power down & unplug
2: disconnect the HDD & install the SSD to the lowest numbered chipset (Inter or AMD) sata3 port you have.
3: enter the bios and ensure the chipset sata3 ports are in AHCI mode.
4: make the SSD the first boot device
5: power up and press the F-key (usually f11 or f12) to select the boot device. Select DVD
6: install windows.

When windows is done installing you can reattach the HDD. I typically reserve the next lowest sata3 port for add ing another SSD down the road and put the HDD in the next one (or the lowest numbered chipset sata2 port if your motherbd does not have all sata3 ports)
Follow one of the many SSD optimizatin guides. Many are listed here:

Now you can choose to reinstall your programs/apps to the SSD or HDD using the custom install feature most programs have.
Enjoy!

well i am planning to compress some stuff and place on other hdd..but thats about it

Rule #1 - Never trust a single device to keep your important files safe.

Everything breaks eventually so your important files should be stored in more that 1 device and preferable in more than 1 place. For example if your house burns down it sure would be nice to have a backup copy of all your family pictures and movies at your sisters house.
